4 Tips to Grow on Instagram in 2022

Updated: Feb 24, 2022

Is your goal is to grow your Instagram following this year? Below we have a tried-and-tested content strategy that is going to increase your Instagram following, which can then increase traffic to your site and make more sales. Woohoo!

You don't have to spend hours and hours creating one Instagram post, as a lot of the content types below are super quick and easy to execute! OK, let's go!

  1. Memes

Who doesn't love a meme? They're shareable, make people laugh and are super relatable, which is why they do so well.

If you see a trending meme, make it relevant to your audience and niche. The goal here is to create a funny, and relatable moment for your audience that fits your brand.

Memes are a proven content strategy that boosts engagement and new followers because they are widely shared to Stories.

Do you remember the viral meme when Kim Kardashian attended the MET Gala in an all-black, very simple Balenciaga outfit, and she was pictured standing next to Kendall Jenner in an elaborate gown? Here was how we adapted that meme to our social media Niche:

2. Create Reels

If you really want to grow on Instagram, Reels definitely need to be included in your content strategy. Haven't you heard? Instagram is no longer a photo-sharing app, and they are prioritising video in the algorithm. See the update below from Head of Instagram - Adam Mosseri:

When you've posted your reel, the Instgram algorithm will literally share your reels with people who aren't following you - yet!

Create content that is educational, and has humour, and is made for a viewer who has no idea who you are. Make sure you add value in the caption!

Here is a reel I created within my niche that has over 5000 plays!

Some top tips when creating reels:

  1. Keep them short and sweet. Up to 15 seconds is best! These tend to be the most engaging!

  2. Ensure closed captions are in the video, especially if you are explaining something.

  3. If you are lip-syncing to something, ensure that your mouth matches up with the audio, otherwise, you just won't look good!!

  4. If you have a TikTok account and think it's a good idea to upload the same video to your Instagram. Think again! Instagram has announced that they are deprioritising Reels that are visibly recycled from other apps - especially TikTok! So, if you're looking to repurpose your TikTok videos for Instagram Reels, it's a good idea to remove the TikTok watermark first.

Here's how to do that:

  1. Before uploading your final video to TikTok, screen record it. Then crop the screen recording in your photo album to remove the TikTok watermark.

  2. Use a watermark removal tool like Snaptik App Online Watermark Removal.

5. Hop on Audio trends fast!

Just like TikTok, trends on Reels can come and go quite quickly, and you want to be one of the first on the trend.

To find trending sounds, there are a number of ways to do this:

- Each morning scroll through the Instagram Reels tab to see what users are sharing. If anything seems to keep coming up, it may be a sound, a song, or even a dance routine.

- Another way is through Laters new article featuring trending Instagram Reel sounds here . Each week they will be updating this resource with the top Instagram Reels trends heating up on the feed.

3. Share Relatable Tweets

This is another form of memes, but way easier to make as well. It's literally just a screenshot of a tweet, and for some reason, these types of posts have a great engagement.

4. Use the Collabs Feature

Kill 2 birds with one stone, or in other words, 1 Instagram post which is then shared to 2 audiences = a new way to get more followers!

Team up with creators or brands to create reels or carousel posts! Ways to collab include:

-Film a reels trend together

- Host a giveaway

-Share a life update or vacation pics!

There you have it!
